With this site I really wanted to work with a dark, textured background and various light sources that would impact the environment I had created. For the header, I used several layers of dark blue bokeh textures. The center image of the server bathed in light is composite of several images: a server, cascading digital light, and various glow spots created from scratch. The page background is simply a wall of binary code overlaying a dark surface. I applied smooth, circular mask to make the texture more subtle.
The navigation and glowing button effects are the results of several jQuery experiements after studying the hover fade method. This effect allows me to fade in and out between two images using jQuery and not flash. Even better, it's not really a plug-in, it's more like an extra line of code to add to jQuery. This is important because it allows me to develop these kinds of animations quickly and efficiently.
